WHAT IS A CONSUMER MAINS UPGRADE?
The consumer mains are the cables that run from the Ausgrid network connection point into your home's switchboard. In older properties these cables are often undersized for the power demands of a modern household, particularly if you are adding solar panels, a battery system, a pool, an air conditioning system or an EV charger.
A consumer mains upgrade replaces these cables with larger capacity cabling, allowing your home to safely draw more power from the network. This work is classified as Level 2 electrical work, meaning it can only be legally carried out by a Level 2 ASP accredited electrician. Jack holds this accreditation, which most electricians across the Hunter region do not.
We manage the entire process including all Ausgrid network applications and associated paperwork. You do not need to deal with the network yourself. We handle it from start to finish and keep you informed throughout.

No. Consumer mains upgrades are Level 2 electrical work and can only be carried out by a Level 2 ASP accredited electrician. Jack is fully accredited, which gives us direct access to work on the Ausgrid network without needing to involve a third party.
How long does a consumer mains upgrade take?
The physical work typically takes half a day. There may be additional lead time for Ausgrid approvals depending on your specific situation. We will give you a clear timeline when we provide your quote.
Is a consumer mains upgrade the same as a switchboard upgrade?
No, they are two separate things. The consumer mains are the cables coming into your switchboard from the point of attachment. The switchboard is the distribution board inside your home. Sometimes both need upgrading at the same time and we can handle both in a single visit.
